2009: Bangor-Kitsap Naval Station, Washington

You are invited to celebrate the annual PLC retreat with us at the end of February 2009 under the theme “Pacific Life Community – Resisting With Our Lives”.
DATES:  The retreat will be preceded by a public event on Thursday evening, February 26, 2009.
The two-night retreat begins Friday afternoon Feb. 27 at Gwinwood retreat center (http://www.gwinwood.org/) and will end with direct nonviolent action and vigil on Sunday, March 1, 2009.

Here are transportation options, information links, and our requests to you to help us coordinate volunteers for certain legs of your trip in to and away from the 2009 PLC Retreat.

See the single printable flyer for the two public events:
* “Nuclear Free & Independent Pacific: An International Law Perspective” – Public Forum on Thursday February 26, 2009, 7:00 pm in Seattle
* Direct Action at Trident/Bangor in commemoration of 55th anniversary of “Bravo” detonation over Bikini Atoll – Sunday March 1, 2009

Special retreat guests include:
* Motarilavoa Hilda Lini from Vanuatu
* Anabel Dwyer from Michigan
* Shelley Douglass from Alabama

Our cost per person will be right about $100 for two nights’ retreat lodging, six meals, transportation assistance for final leg of trip to retreat center plus to and away from Ground Zero on Sunday, and community stays for those who can or need to stay Thursday and/or Sunday nights.  No one will be turned away for lack of funds.  We hope some who can, may pay more.

It helps to receive word from you as soon as possible, and to receive expense donations right away, too. Please send in your registration BEFORE Valentine’s Day and even better, by JANUARY 26.  Thank you!

There is an online form for registration.  Please choose your method of payment to decide which form to access and follow the corresponding link:

* BLUE BACKROUND registration form for Credit Card/PayPal:
You may pay by credit card, or if you have (or create) a PayPal account, you can also use this form for a secure bank draft (which avoids the nominal credit card fee charged to Ground Zero).

* WHITE BACKGROUND registration form for pay-by-mail (or for Not Being Turned Away For Lack Of Funds)
You may write a check payable to “Ground Zero Center” (with PLC RETREAT in the memo, please) and mail it

We’d like to have a water ritual, a blessing of the water as our symbolic freeing of the Pacific from all nuclear weapons. Please bring a small vial (max. 3 oz. for airplane travelers) of water from your home community… ocean water, or whatever kind you want to symbolize bringing your healing energy to the Puget Sound waters.  Or bring an empty vial to fill at the retreat center’s lake or at another stop along the way.

Speaking of water, a lot falls from the sky here.  Bring good mud-traversing shoes for the procession down to the Trident gate on Sunday, and other walking-in-the-rain gear.  All linens will be provided.

Collect your songbooks, packable instruments, and here’s one more idea.
Since the Ground Zero Community building will still be in the finishing stages of construction, we’d like to decorate the space for our Sunday circle time. If you can, bring a symbol of “the Pacific” with you to help brighten the space.
