Frida Berrigan at PLC 2011
PLC 2011 will feature a free, public address from Frida Berrigan on the theme “Nuclear War and Nuclear Weapons Profit No One.” The talk will occur at the Vallombrosa Center, 250 Oak Grove in Menlo Park on Sunday March 6, 2011 between 2 and 4 PM.
Frida Berrigan has written extensively on nuclear weapons policy. A columnist for Foreign Policy in Focus and a contributing editor of In These Times magazine, she has authored reports on arms trade and human rights, U.S. nuclear weapons export, and the domestic politics of U.S. missile defense and space weapons policies. She has been a featured expert on national and regional radio outlets, and regularly speaks on national security issues to citizen’s organizations and at major conferences throughout the United States. While a researcher at The Nation magazine she co-authored numerous articles with William D. Hartung, author and director of the Arms and Security Initiative at the New America Foundation, where she has also been a Senior Program Associate.
She currently serves on the board of the War Resisters League and is active with the grassroots group Witness Against Torture. She and her brother and sister grew up in the Jonah House community founded by her parents, peace activists Elizabeth McAlister and Philip Berrigan.
